FROM NEWSPAPER IN CALI: EQ Alert Guy becomes world’s first quake chaser

On Oct. 11, 2011, The EQ Alert Guy (EQ) landed at San Francisco International Airport on his way to what was about to become the world’s very first official "Quake Chase." Since the day of the Northridge Quake, EQ had been investigating exactly what causes earthquakes and when Oct. 2011 came around, he knew he had Northern California narrowed down very closely. When he incorporated the fact that the night of Oct. 12 would have a full moon, he immediately bought a ticket to Frisco and embarked on this new field of quake chasing.

Immediately upon landing in San Francisco, EQ headed to the USGS Offices in Menlo Park where he hand-delivered a copy of an "Official Prediction" for a major earthquake to strike between Oregon and California before Oct. 21, 2011, to a person who is actually on the California Earthquake Prediction Evaluation Council.

The next day, EQ headed to UC Berkeley to meet his old friend from seismology who he met years earlier when he was featured on the news for his earthquake early warning system. His friend was very happy to see EQ once again and demonstrated the very latest in the Earthquake Early Warning technology. Two earthquakes struck right at that instant, with the computer beeping and buzzing and announcing the number of minutes before the shock would be felt at Berkeley. On this occasion, they were small earthquakes, but served as a great illustration for how the system would eventually work all over California.

The earthquake that EQ was waiting for struck at 8:15 p.m. that night, Oct. 12, 2011, at Coos Bay, Oregon, and while it originally registered 5.9 Richters, it was downgraded to 5.3 Richters, but still ranks as among the biggest earthquakes ever to strike that California area. It officially made EQ the world’s very first successful quake chaser.
Only a few days after he flew out of San Francisco and headed for home, there were two more earthquakes, a 4.0 and a 4.2 Richters that struck Berkeley at or very near the campus at UC Berkeley, as well as a big 5.6 Richters earthquake at Oklahoma where EQ immediately headed for his next quake chase.

Yes, this is the place where as you might notice, I post all of my latest Quake Chase stuff! Right at the moment the Major Earthquake we are watching and waiting for looks like it might strike Nicaragua and while I have found a friend who has a place down Central America way. . . I have also been told there is NO LAW in some of those places so looking at beautiful downtown Guatamala City on Google Earth may be as close as I am going to get to seeing this one because for the time being I have decided no Quake Chases to Central America in my immediate future!!! Also seen somewhere that Coasta Rica averages about one 8 Richters earthquake every two years and after thinking about it have decided that while the likelyhoood MAY BE high of actually catching an 8 Magnitude earthquake really close-up; the likelyhood of me wanting to be in the middle of it down in Guatamala is very low! Earthquake Energy Heading for Southern California!

It's not the type of earthquake energy that makes good Quake Chases, though! Whenever the Pacific Tectonic Plate pushes against the North American Tectonic Plate like it is doing now, it would seem possible to Quake Chase Southern California the night of the upcoming full moon on Monday January 9, 2012 but just simple plate tectonics alone is not enough for me.

Stay tuned for the next Quake Chase that involves earthquake energy headed for a specific point on the map such as October 2011 was headed directly for Northern California. This new energy could well be headed for Mexico City, Guatamala, or Coast Rica, however tectonic plate movement alone is harder to forcast, and so virtually impossible for me to Quake Chase.

Meantime, I found some good prices on flights to Anchorage, Alaska and San Diego, California so keep watching for a good Quake Chase to one of them places in 2012!

Next Quake Chase: Costa Rica!!!!!

Great News Folks! Just talked to one of my friends who has a friend with a house in Costa Rica and would like us to travel down there anytime! Therefore, I said as soon as there is a Major Earthquake heading for Costa Rica we should plan on getting on a plane and flying on down there to take him up on the invite!!! Although it's been quite some time since the last alert was for Costa Rica. . . it is still fresh in my mind and it shouldn't be too long before the next one! 2012? Leaving for Oklahoma City!!!!! Next Great QUAKE CHASE!!!!!

They just had another 4.7 outside of OKC and I am packing!!! Had to dig out my maps of Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma and put batteries in my old transistor radio and starting to load up the car right now!!! With the full moon coming on Thursday Night it seems possible that we might be looking at a 6.5 or 7 Magnitude Earthquake down Oklahoma way and THIS Quake Chaser is going to be there!!!!!

Oklahoma City Here I Come!!!!! Calling All Quake Chasers!!!

If Oklahoma City works like so many places around the world it's easy to figure there might be Major Earthquake Energy there the night of the Full Moon, or Thursday, November 10, 2011 and so there is a chance I will be there that night!!! While they like to say that 5.6 was as big as earthquakes get in Oklahoma. . . I still have to see the Full Moon down there to believe it!!! Not going to hit 6 or 7 Richters OKC??? Quake Chase Guatemala? Coast Rica?

Found some fairly reasonable flights to Guatemala around $500 and also some great hotel rooms there, too! While I found that Panama is a little more expensive, I noticed Costa Rica was a "Hub" for the airlines and flights are fairly cheep to there out of Miami! So watch for Quake Chaser to be hopping on a "Puddle Jumper" for Central America in the not so distant future. . . or as soon as a Major Earthquake starts heading in THAT direction! And as soon as he gets his passport renewed:) QC

Next Quake Chase = Albany, New York???

Yes, as close as I can figure to the exact epicenter which I eventually hope to be at is on this upcoming occasion. . . Albany, New York!!!!! I know it is only supposed to be a 4 or 5 Richters Earthquake, but I suppose it is the Quake Chaser in me that really wants to be there right at the epicenter at the moment this next big medium sized shaker strikes!!! Roundtrip Amtrak is $166, and i found a nice room for around sixty a night! I'm thinking through early next week I should be able to catch this one! Thank-You for reading! Quake Chaser

Quake Chase-Texas, and Kurgastan!!!

Just a note to say that if you were one of those who had asked me about doing a little Quake Chasing in Texas, you might have just caught a fairly good shaker last week, and if you were one of the guys who has it within his power to travel to Kurgastan there was also a fairly large shaker next door in neighboring Turkey!!! In the future we like to always cover such a shaky place as Turkey, especially when the straight line of earthquake energy goes directly through Kurgastan and Nepal. . . you can easily see Turkey there on the map plus or minus the width of that original line! The more Quake Chasers we get over time, the closer we will eventually be to having guys right there to report that Major Earthquake live as it happens! And doing a lot of the rescue work, too!

2 Hours Before The Full Moon!!!!! Coos Bay, Oregon 5.9 Richters!!!

Wasn't too bad of a Quake Chase!!!!! Just happened to be inside of a store when my phone rang telling me Coos Bay, Oregon just got struck with a 5.9 Richters Shaker at about the same moment that the building started to move from side to side practically throwing me against the wall and into the display there in the aisle where I was standing right at that moment, or trying to stand-up anywayz! That earthquake has since been downgraded numericaly, but still easily ranks as by far the biggest earthquake that Quake Chaser / EQ Guy has ever been in!!! This earthquake easily swayed us back and forth for several seconds as much as like close to 10 or 20 feet it seemed like, and reminded me of what I hear a lot of guys say when they describe earthquakes. . . that it felt very much like rocking in a boat!

Quake Chaser Is Leaving For San Francisco!!!!! Big Shaker Night of Full Moon???

Hello, Thank-You for reading my new "Quake Chaser" Blog!!!!! I hope to see some Major Earthquake action out California way this week and leave for San Francisco early tomorrow morning from Chicago's O'Hare Airport. I will arrive in San Francisco at 9:55am and have a lot of stuff I want to do, mostly earthquake work. . . but Quake Chaser Dude also loves his Rollerblading and so I plan to get some Rollerblading, too!!! Just so happened to notice a neat trail named "San Andreas Trail" and so can't wait to check that one out!

This Earthquake should be around a 7.6 Richters Magnitude and will probably strike the exact day/night of the Full Moon or a day or so after. The Great Chile Quake struck about ONE HOUR before the full moon and the recent Christchurch, New Zealand Earthquake AND the aftershock there were both two days after the Full Moon and I will still be in Frisco two days after the Full Moon on Friday Night!!!!!

Finally, be aware that this is NOT A DRILL. There WILL BE a Major Earthquake this week whether it strikes California or not be watching because somebody, somewhere will get a whole lot of this upcoming Major Earthquake Energy!!!!! There is actually more than one earthquake energy so something over in the Himilayan Arc region may also strike with this months Full Moon. Also, this energy could miss California and hit Ely, Nevada, or Caracus, Venezuala!
